The Consumer Services Division handles complaints and offers dispute resolution to customers having difficulty with communications, electric, natural gas and water utilities under the jurisdiction of the NC Utilities Commission. Complaints may involve rates and tariffs, deposits, quality of service, billing disputes, unauthorized changes in long distance service, or other assorted issues.
Members of the Staff work generally with other members of the Communications, Electric, Natural Gas, Water, and Legal Division in expediting consumer concerns and issues. The North Carolina Utilities Commission does not have jurisdiction over municipal utility systems, electric or telephone membership corporations, internet, cable television, cellular telephones, or DSL.
Before contacting Consumer Services, you must first attempt to resolve the problem directly with the utility company.
